George Soros – Powerful Philanthropist of the Modern World

George Soros is a billionaire financial expert and a philanthropist who is known for being one of the greatest hedge-fund investors in the country. He has worked tirelessly throughout his life and has invested a large part of his fortune for the benefit of others. He has supported different groups and organizations that are working towards accountable governance, transparency, and freedom of expression in the country. George Soros has been a victim of intolerance himself and understands the plights of other immigrants. He was born in Hungary in 1930 and was in the country when the Nazi-occupied the country. His family secured false identity papers to save themselves and also helped many others. Soros, in one of his interviews, spoke about his life during this time and said that he and his family fought the evil force and prevailed even after that.

George came to London in 1947 and joined London School of Economics. He worked as a railway porter and also as a nightclub waiter so that he could support his studies. After completing his studies and working in London for a few years, he moved to the United States and started his career in the finance industry where he became successful and made a fortune through his hard work. He started a hedge fund in 1970 and named it Soros Fund Management that helped him become one of the most successful investors that the country has ever seen.

In 1979, George Soros started providing scholarships to South Africans so that the deserving candidates can pursue their studies. Over the years, he has supported and donated to many cultural exchanges between Eastern Europe and the West for the exchange of ideas. He is also the supporter of same-sex marriage efforts and has been promoting laws in support of it since the early 2000s. He has donated money to many paralegals and lawyers representing the immigrants so that they too can live a civil life in this country without being harassed. Some of the global organizations that he has donated to are the International Crisis Group, Global Witness and the European Council on Foreign Relations.

Age is just a number for George Soros. Even though he is in his 80s, he continues to fight for what is right. He spends time working for the Open Society Foundations and advocates policy changes for a more open governance in the country that will benefit the residents as well as the people who come here from outside. He believes in creating a world that is more open to new ideas and is just and equitable for people from different cultures and walks of life.
